Catching up with old friends

I love my friends, but I’m a homebody, so this post is about books that I love to return to, time after time, to catch up with my favourite characters, and transport myself to a world outside my own.

Four books/series do this for me: The Wind in the Willows; Anne of Green Gables; Harry Potter; and, the Chronicles of Narnia.

I’m not sure if it says something about me that these books are aimed at, or at least certainly suitable for children, but this blog is all about comfort and escapism and for me that means things that make you happy and relaxed (even better if they have a gorgeous cover, or perhaps some illustrations). I love a good detective thriller, but relaxing they are not!

“Don’t you know that everybody’s got a fairyland of their own?” Mary Poppins, P.L. Travers

One of my favourite things to do is curl up in bed, or on the sofa under a blanket and just read them right from the beginning. It doesn’t matter how well I know it, every joke is funny (sometimes they seem to just get funnier!), every description is still as vivid and engaging, and adult cares just seem forgotten, at least for a while.

You can buy some beautiful versions of all these books here:

The Wind in the Willows

Anne of Green Gables

Harry Potter

The Chronicles of Narnia

I am not affiliated with this website, I just use them a lot to buy books!
