Unwind

When I want to unwind, well, I’ll be honest it usually involves a glass of wine. But aside from that, an oft-watched TV show (nothing that will keep me awake or give me nightmares) a much-loved film or a well-thumbed book is always my go to. I’m a big lover of box sets and on demand viewing, and once I find something that gives me that warm fuzzy feeling, I like to settle myself in for an hour or six. Basically I enjoy any activity that be accomplished while holding a wine glass or a cup of tea!

I’ll be posting about what I’m reading and what I’m watching currently, but here’s a list of my lifetime loves (I’ll warn you, it’s an eclectic mix) for when you need that ‘wrapped in a blanket, nothing bad can happen’ feeling. If I find anything that’s new and really great, I’ll add to this list from time to time.

TV shows

The Vicar of Dibley

Roger and Val Have Just Got In (I’d never heard of it until I found it on Netflix, loved it so much I’ve bought both series on DVD. Hilarious and heartbreaking in equal measure)

Tales from the Green Valley/Victorian Farm/Edwardian Farm (I love a good rural documentary, in another life I think I was a farmer’s wife!)

Wallace and Gromit (all of them, I like to have cheese and crackers and watch them back to back)

Pride and Prejudice (the 1995 version, obviously)

Old Bear and Friends (don’t judge, I loved it as a child, and I love the aesthetics of it even now)

As Time Goes By

Films

Dirty Dancing (I’m still waiting for someone to dance with me like Johnny dances with Baby)

Chicken Run

The Curse of the Wererabbit

Grease (it’s surreal but I love it!)

Books

Anne of Green Gables (if you’re not much of a reader, Anne with an E is a beautiful, if not faithful, adaptation on Netflix)

The Wee Free Men/Tiffany Aching series

Pride and Prejudice/Sense and Sensibility/Emma

The Chronicles of Narnia

Harry Potter (mostly the audiobook these days, but it makes me so relaxed, I listen to it every night before bed)

The Wind in the Willows
